    What is a passport?

A passport is a legal document that your country issues you to help you prove your identity abroad, where your national ID would not be valid. A passport proves your identity, describes you and records the countries in which you have been and the lapses in which you have been there. The use of passports started as early as the year 450 BC, but they were extensively used since the twentieth century with more security standards adopted. Your US passport will prove your identity safely worldwide.
